Special Educational Needs

Coverack SEND Vision

At Coverack Primary School, we passionately believe in the importance of inclusion and equality for all children. Our ‘where happy learners grow’ vision is at the heart of our ambitious curriculum, which is designed to be exciting and engaging. The curriculum is scaffolded and adapted to meet the needs of every individual to ensure all children thrive and reach their true potential. Teachers at Coverack share the belief that everyone is a leader of SEND provision. They treat everyone on an individual basis by identifying barriers early and then catering for their specific identified needs. All staff at Coverack fully recognise and are committed to fulfilling their responsibility to ensure that every pupil has an equal opportunity to attain good outcomes in their learning, progress and personal development. Pupils of all ages and abilities will be encouraged and provided opportunities for continued growth and development to become honest, kind, respectful and determined.

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

Children with additional needs are identified through a combination of observations within their classes by our experienced staff, tracking the outcomes of assessments and through discussions with parents. Should a child need additional strategies, or different provision, in order to meet their needs and remove barriers to learning our SENDCo works with the class teachers and teaching assistants to create tailored programmes of SEND support. This SEND support is known as the graduated approach and takes the form of a four-part cycle (assess, plan, do, review). Through this cycle, actions are reviewed and refined, as understanding of a student’s needs and the support required to help them secure good outcomes increases.

If you wish to discuss your child's learning programme, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher in the first instance.

We work with a range of external agencies to provide the best support for all our children. There are too many to list, but they include:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Cognition and Learning Team
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Hearing Support Service
  • Social Communication Difficulties Team
  • Medical Professionals

The responsible person for SEND is Mrs Kirsty Joseph and she can be contacted via the school office on 01326 280529 or via email at hello@coverackschool.org

The Senior Mental Health Lead is Head of School, Mrs J Talbot
